10 Year Anniversary of (Maybe) the Most Epic Collapse in Modern Sports

Submitted Wednesday, July 15, 2009 by 3tyAL | Category: Sports
As the British Open approaches, which is pretty much the only golf tournament I ever watch during the year, I was reminded that this is the 10 year anniversary of the most amazing epic collapse in a sporting event I have ever witnessed. The range of emotions I recalled while watching this covered the spectrum. First, some comedy as you watch the Frenchman inexplicably use a driver on the tee, then anger at the pure stupidity of the man in going for the green in two, to utter jaw-dropping amazement at realizing the epic meltdown I am witnessing as he wades into the creek thinking he can still make a shot on his submerged ball. Eventually sadness overcame me when I realized what this meant for the poor fellow, followed finally by fist-pumping joy as he sinks a 10 foot putt to save triple bogey.

I don't think there are many other golf fans on this site, but I thoroughly enjoyed re-watching this so I'm sharing.

I 'member watching that. In most other sports it is hard to tell when a player/team collapses and when the opposing player/team
"comes back".

The only collapse I can put up with the frog's is Lindsey Jacobellis' ill-fated method to lose the gold in the 2006 Snowboard Cross. It was Leon Lett like.

But my favorite collapses, in their purest form, are from these two triathletes:
